Driver Caught Speeding – To Speed Awareness Course

You wake up late one morning. The alarm didn’t go off. Must get that fixed. You’re late. Really late. You’re late for your Speed Awareness Course! Now, do you do the sensible thing and reschedule? Or somehow make it there on time. Oh the irony!

Now admittedly this article is not strictly news about the motor trade. Nor does it discuss the “pros” of our fabulous self-funded warranty that has for over 30 years, championed used car dealers interests, and become a fundamental part of some of the most trusted names in the industry. However. You have to laugh at this one.

A driver was caught by police speeding along the M6 at almost 100mph. When they pulled him over, he told them why he was rushing. He was late for his speed awareness course!

The driver caught speeding, in his 50s who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Pathfinder can now expect a summons to drop through his letterbox. He was caught speeding on the M6 toll between Lichfield and Burntwood in Staffordshire.

Now even though is quite a funny story, we at WAS regard speeding is such a dangerous choice to make on the roads. If you’re late for something, then it’s best to get there safely than endanger not only yourself, but the lives of others. Drive safe and smart on the roads people.

What is the most popular new car colour?

So you’re strolling around the forecourt arranging your stock of used vehicles. Which colour car do you think is more likely to sell? The red one? The blue one? SMMT figures reveal the “colour of choice” for UK new car buyers!

Way back in 1996 when we were caught in the grip of “brit pop” fever, and our national football teams brought the UK to a standstill in the European Championships – just 2,489 white cars were sold on the UK’s forecourts.

Based on the latest SMMT figures it appears that in 2013 and 2014, “white cars” are the new “black cars”. White cars are now the colour of choice for UK new car buyers!

“Of 2,476,435 new cars registered in 2014, 22.2% were white – representing the highest proportion of white cars registered in any year since records began in 1996.”

10 years ago, only 1% of new car customers bought a white car. In 2014 almost a quarter of the 2,476,435 new cars registered in the UK were white!

Figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reveal:

  • 2,476,435 new cars registered in 2014.
  • 22.2% of those cars were white making it the most popular new car colour.
  • 2014 sees the highest proportion of white cars registered in any year since records began in 1996.
  • In 2010 white cars accounted for less than 10% of new-car registrations.
  • In 2010 black and silver cars were most popular new car colour.

Best-selling white cars by year

Year         Make Model Registrations
1996 Citroën Xantia 2,489
2000 Vauxhall Astra 4,775
2005 MINI MINI 3,827
2010 Fiat 500 13,049
2014 Ford Fiesta 25,845

So if you’re arranging your used stock on the forecourt this weekend, maybe have a look to see if any of your white cars are fully visible. It just might be the next car you sell!

The WAS-Files – Where were we in 1984?

Back when iconic films such as Ghostbusters and Police Academy were debuting on the big screen, and the Vauxhall Astra Mk2 and Ford Escort RS Turbo rolled off the production line, a small company with a radical new approach to car dealer warranties was born. In 1984, Warranty Administration Services Ltd produced the first self-funded warranty.

Yes, this month of February 2015 heralds our 31st year in business, and we are still going strong! Continuing to supply self-funded car dealer warranty programmes across the UK for some of the largest and most trusted dealer brands. It’s crazy to think that the “new” self-funded warranty we pioneered all those years ago to the motor trade, is still at the forefront of our car dealer solutions today. Albeit modernised and digital!

Anyway, to celebrate this milestone, we’ve thrown together some fun photos and facts from our staff “as we were” 31 years ago! So be prepared for some fantastic school photos, awful fashion senses and wild hair styles!

The Greener Side To Car Dealer Warranties

Warranty Administration Services Ltd support local enterprise through a green pledge. Discover the greener side to car dealer warranties!

We are pleased to announce that Warranty Administration Services Ltd has once again fully offset our Carbon footprint, by making a £120 donation to Hill Holt Woods towards the cost of planting new trees in the woods!

Carbon Conscious Car Dealer Warranties Administration
Carbon Conscious Car Dealer Warranties Administration

This is our second year of measuring the impact that our business of supplying self-funded car dealer warranties has on the planet, and then offsetting that impact using our Environmental Policy and Corporate Social Responsibility Policy.

Old Car Dealer Warranties
Some of our old car dealer warranty books!

Consider our approach to paper. Compared to when we first started business back in 1984 when we used to print and produce stacks of car dealer warranties. Today – almost every operation in the WAS office is electronic and digital!

Car Dealer Warranties Online
Warranty registration through our system takes a matter of seconds online!

Warranties are produced online at the click of a button, and dealer claim invoices and paperwork are scanned and stored on our secure servers. We have come a long way from those early days, to now being a business that treats paper as a luxury, not a necessity.

Measuring your Carbon footprint is easy,  and planting trees to offset your environmental impact requires a simple calculation.

As a rule of thumb 1 tree will offset 1 tonne of Carbon. A tree cost around £12 and using someone like Hill Holt Woods ensures that  100% of your donation will help meet the objectives of the recipient.

January Car Sales 2015 – Off to a good start?

Strap yourselves in, because the very first new car registration figures of 2015 are out! Could we see another rise in sales to make it the 35th consecutive month of growth?

To answer this question – YES! The January car sales 2015 figures are out, and they reveal a total of 164,856 cars were registered during January 2015.

These numbers released by the SMMT and represented a 6.7% rise in the number of registrations, and the strongest January performance since 2007!

These stats also make this a record growth period for the whole market, with January 2015 marking the 35th consecutive monthly rise in sales.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: ‘These figures mark an encouraging start to the year after a very strong 2014, with a strikingly robust company car market as businesses take advantage of the attractive finance offers currently available.

‘January saw increased uptake of both petrol and diesel cars, while demand for alternatively-fuelled vehicles continued its surge with registrations rising by 60.8 per cent. Registrations of plug-in vehicles were particularly strong as consumers responded to a greater choice of makes and models delivering lower running costs.

‘Last year’s 9.3 per cent rise in the overall market was fuelled by stronger-than-expected economic confidence and, for 2015, we expect to see some levelling-off throughout the year: demand is back to pre-recession levels following record-breaking growth.’

As Hawes indicated, the figures display particularly strong growth in the area of company car registrations, up 18.1 per cent on January 2014.

Fleet registrations have been increasing consistently since 2012 as UK business confidence has bounced back since the recession. Just 882,415 cars were registered to fleets in 2009; this grew to 1,178,416 in 2014. Currently, the strong pound means that manufacturers can offer attractive finance packages to fleet buyers in the UK.

Mitsubishi To Offer Five-Year Warranty

Mitsubishi joins Hyundai, Toyota, Subaru, SsangYong as one of the select few car manufacturers to offer customers a five-year warranty on it’s vehicles.

Mitsubishi in the UK has recently introduced a comprehensive five year warranty as standard across its model line up. From January 1 2015, all their cars and commercial vehicles will come as standard with a fully comprehensive five-year warranty package.

By comparison, Renault presently offers a four year warranty, and Kia stands alone in offering its cars with seven year or 100,000 miles cover. Vauxhall did launch a Lifetime Warranty programme in August 2010 but as we recently reported, they decided to reduce it down to a three year/60,000 mile warranty.

Lance Bradley, the managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK said “the move to a 5-year warranty reflected the brand’s confidence in the quality and reliability of its vehicles”.

On the back of an improved model line-up, Mitsubishi has been improving its sales while recruiting dealers. New car registrations in the year to November 2014 rose 74.4% to 14,443 units giving it a market share of 0.39%.
