UK new car sales kick 2016 off on a high with the best January since 2005.
Latest new car sales figures coming in from the SMMT have revealed 2016 starting on a very positive note for new car sales, which can only be good news for the used car market! I’ll come to that in my next post, but first new car sales.
After a slight slump in the later part of 2015, this January has witnessed the best January for new car sales since 2005 as registrations increased by 2.9% to 169,678 vehicles.
What’s more interesting is the demand for alternatively-fueled vehicles continues to grow in leaps and bounds with January seeing a 32.1% spike bringing the alternative-fueled vehicle market share to 3.6%. Petrol hybrids showed the largest growth – up 44.1%.In this editors eyes that can only be a good thing. Especially after recently sitting in my colleagues hybrid car and being amazed at the quietness and eco-friendliness of the battery powered “silent start” and initial pull off the lights. I’ll totally consider a hybrid for my next purchase! Anyway! Here’s the movers and the shakers on the new car sales front:
Fiesta – 8,353
Qashqai – 4,839
Corsa – 4,803
Focus – 4,285
Golf – 3,813
Juke – 3,446
Polo – 3,298
A3 – 3,227
Astra – 3,185
C-Class – 3,022
It’s worth noting just how well the UK export market is doing. It seems car exports to India have more than trebled in the past 5 years according to data released today ahead of Auto Expo 2016. In 2015, the UK exported 194.5% more cars to the region than in 2010, and 5.4% more than last year, putting India in the UK’s top 10 Asian export markets.
British manufacturers made more cars in 2015 than any year since 2005 when 1,595,697 vehicles were produced.

Warranty Administration Services Ltd support local enterprise through a green pledge. Discover the greener side to car dealer warranties!
We are pleased to announce that Warranty Administration Services Ltd has once again fully offset our Carbon footprint, by making a £120 donation to Hill Holt Woods towards the cost of planting new trees in the woods!
This is our second year of measuring the impact that our business of supplying self-funded car dealer warranties has on the planet, and then offsetting that impact using our Environmental Policy and Corporate Social Responsibility Policy.
Consider our approach to paper. Compared to when we first started business back in 1984 when we used to print and produce stacks of car dealer warranties. Today – almost every operation in the WAS office is electronic and digital!
Warranties are produced online at the click of a button, and dealer claim invoices and paperwork are scanned and stored on our secure servers. We have come a long way from those early days, to now being a business that treats paper as a luxury, not a necessity.
Measuring your Carbon footprint is easy, and planting trees to offset your environmental impact requires a simple calculation.
As a rule of thumb 1 tree will offset 1 tonne of Carbon. A tree cost around £12 and using someone like Hill Holt Woods ensures that 100% of your donation will help meet the objectives of the recipient.

Happy New Year! Now let’s make it a prosperous one.
This year, Warranty Administration Services Ltd (WAS) are committed to making a major investment to further develop our products and services to deliver enhanced value to our customers. Marketing and re-marketing are areas in which we will be developing systems to assist you in keeping in touch with your own customers with up-to-date offers and real time news.
Your Own Promotional Warranty Page Insert
The first stage of this will be to make another page available on our customers guarantee paperwork to add a silent salesman. This page will be unique to you and can contain any information you wish to promote to your customers.
Our Referral System – Redesigned!
Another change we have immediately instigated is a major overhaul to our referral system. Over the last 18 months, we have rewarded any dealer who refers a friend who subsequently took up our self-funded guarantee scheme with a case of wine of their choice valued up to £100.
This year we are improving our reward.
The case of wine still stands as a personal thank you to the individual who made the referral. Now, as a massive added incentive to pass on our details, we are also going to reward the refering dealership with a monthly credit note equal to the value of the referred garages’ first 3 admin fee invoices.
Real Financial Rewards
This added incentive could bring a customer up to £1200 in credit by referring a garage who retails just 20 vehicles per month.
There is no limit to the number of referrals that can be made, or credit that can be earned under this referral system, so if you are one of our clients, please call if you can think of any friends or contacts in the motor trade who would also benefit from the guarantee scheme that you already use.
